On the Shotgun House Native Plant Garden Tour, Gardener and Poet Hilda Weiss leads an intimate tour that corresponds with the garden’s lifecycle in the corresponding season. This collective exploration will spotlight the benefits of our native plants, the garden’s connection to the Shotgun House, and explore our own connections to place.
During the first half of the event, Hilda will take visitors on a tour of the garden, focusing on the selection and care of native plants and how they contribute to the beauty and health of our neighborhoods. Visitors will then reconvene inside the Shotgun House for an interactive seedball workshop led by Mya Gates.
The Shotgun House Native Plant Garden, along with the seedball workshop, is dedicated to climate activist and Conservancy founder, Doris Sosin.
Hilda Weiss is a fourth-generation Californian who lives in Santa Monica, where she grows her own vegetables in a garden full of native California plants. Under her guidance, both the Shotgun House Garden and her own garden have been featured on the Theodore Payne Foundation Native Plant Garden Tour. Her home garden has also been featured on The Garden Conservancy Open Days Tour. Hilda is also a poet and the co-founder and curator for www.Poetry.LA, a website featuring videos of poets in Southern California.
