The Conservancy’s Third Street Walk reveals the architectural and historical highlights and evolution of Santa Monica’s very first historic district, established in 1990. The neighborhood contains 27 original bungalows built between 1903 and 1915, as well as four structures from the late 1800s.

Designating this district was a grass-roots effort, organized by local residents who took on the responsibility for the necessary planning studies and neighborhood organizing for the district nomination. The work involved in creating the district cemented strong bonds among the affected homeowners and built a community.

Your guide, Mario Fonda Bonardi, was among those who worked to designate the district in 1990. Join him on a deep dive into the stories of some of Ocean Park’s oldest residents and buildings!
