Grab your lunch settle in for lively conversation between Kaitlin Drisko and a group of five Southern California-based preservation all-stars representing the California Preservation Foundation, LA Conservancy, Society of Architectural Historians, and the Western Chapter of the Association for Preservation Technology! Each guest will speak about their organization’s work and together, the group will discuss how we can all work together to document, protect, and share our cultural and historic heritage.

Site Specific is a series of free livestream conversations hosted by Conservancy Executive Director Kaitlin Drisko. A preservation architect with over thirty years of experience, Kaitlin invites her colleagues to discuss the nuts and bolts of their current projects. The program is focused on sharing what it takes to rehabilitate, restore, and reconstruct our historic places through a series of case-by-case examples.

California Preservation Foundation
The California Preservation Foundation (CPF) is a nonprofit organization based in San Francisco, California. The 501c3 nonprofit educational organization has over 35,000 members and supporters and was first established in 1976. CPF’s mission is to provide statewide leadership, advocacy, and education to ensure the protection of California’s diverse cultural heritage and historic places. It does so through over a hundred programs across the state and online each year; an awards program recognizing exemplary historic preservation in the state; and an annual conference that draws hundreds across the state and internationally for training in the most innovative and cutting-edge preservation practice. Los Angeles Conservancy
The Conservancy is a nonprofit membership organization whose mission is to work through education and advocacy to recognize, preserve, and revitalize the historic architectural and cultural resources of Los Angeles County. Click HERE for more information.

Society of Architectural Historians, Southern California Chapter (SAC/SCC)
The SAH/SCC is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to providing its members with opportunities to learn about and experience the rich architectural heritage of Southern California and beyond. Our volunteer Board creates engaging and informative tours, lectures, symposia, travel tours, and other events that explore the ideas behind the architecture – as well as the buildings that result from them. Western Chapter of the Association for Preservation Technology (WCAPT)
WCAPT iss organized to promote the interchange of ideas and knowledge concerning preservation of historic buildings, structures, sites, landscapes, museum artifacts, and related materials, and to further the goals of the APT.  It is meant to serve the needs of interested persons in the Western United States including but not limited to California, Nevada, and Arizona. PANELISTS

Jeff Caldwell (Pasadena) has been with Wiss, Janney, Elstner Associates, Inc. (WJE) since 1998 and is a licensed professional engineer in eight states. His experience has focused on the investigation and repair design for failures and performance problems involving a wide variety of building components and materials. Having lived and worked for WJE in Princeton, New York, Boston, and now Los Angeles, Mr. Caldwell has developed an in-depth understanding of a wide range of building construction. His preservation experience ranges from the conservation and strengthening of historical structural concrete and terra cotta systems at Fenway Park and the Fairmont Copley Hotel in Boston, Massachusetts, to the Beverly Wilshire Hotel and the Los Angeles County Hall of Justice in Los Angeles. In addition to serving as President of the Board of Directors for the California Preservation Foundation, Mr. Caldwell is the branch manager of WJE’s Los Angeles office and he is an active member of the Association for Preservation Technology (APTI), a past board member of APT Western Chapter, and is also active with the American Concrete Institute (ACI) and the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE).

Chris Gray is a specialist in the survey and documentation of the built environment as head of Reality Capture for GBG. He worked at English Heritage – the GCI and commercial practice. Chris has promoted the selection, application and use of cutting-edge tools, best practice and professionalism. He has lectured and published frequently. As a chartered surveyor, Chris is mandated to carry out Continued Professional Development. He is a champion of emerging and developing technologies and maintains an overview and familiarity with mapping and GIS applications, as well as detailed structural recording.

Lindsay Mulcahy supports the Conservancy’s Advocacy team as Neighborhood Outreach Coordinator. She has a background in community organizing and holds a dual master’s in Heritage Conservation and Urban Planning. At the Conservancy, she partners with communities around Los Angeles to strengthen connection and resiliency through preservation, planning, and storytelling.

Alan White is a founding partner at AQYER, LLC in Los Angeles, CA. His company specializes in non-destructive evaluation, comprising historic preservation, field data collection, analysis, interpretation and delivery of 2D and 3D documentation. Alan’s 20 years of preservation experience ranges from hands-on restoration of medieval properties in the UK to his current role deploying emerging technology for the non-destructive evaluation and measured survey of existing structures. Alan brings a broad network of professionals and unique project experience to WCAPT. With a unique insight to preservation technology, Alan delivers an enthusiastic approach to educating members of the architecture, engineering and construction community.

Sian Winship is President of the Society of Architectural Historians/Southern California Chapter. She has designed and led architectural tours for the organization for more than twenty-five years. Her day job is working as an independent preservation professional. Sian has authored a number of historic contexts including the award-winning Japanese American Context and Women’s Rights Context for SurveyLA. She was a contributing author to the book, William Krisel’s Palm Springs. She earned a Masters of Historic Preservation from USC in 2011. Sian is also on the board of the Neutra Institute for Survival Through Design.
