The first historic district in Santa Monica (one of just two!) was designated in 1990 to protect a high concentration of historic structures exemplifying the development of Ocean Park from the 1880s to the 1930s. The area preserves many c. 1900 bungalows, as well as four structures from the 19th century. Sites open for the tour are:

• A restored 1906 home featuring intact Craftsman interiors,
• A 1905 Late Victorian home combining restoration and renovation,
• An 1875 Church, repeatedly moved and now a landmarked residence, and
• The Church in Ocean Park, built in 1923, with magnificent stained glass; it plays a central role in the life of the community.

The tour includes a docent-guided walk that reveals the architectural and historical highlights of the district, and the evolution of the neighborhood over time. The walk includes the Landmark Hostetter House (1893), an early 1920s bungalow court and newer buildings constructed post-designation. The district boundaries are Ocean Park Boulevard, Hill Street, Second Street and Third Street.

Tickets: Conservancy members $30, non-members and guests $40; children under 12 free. Tickets purchased on tour day are $35 for members/$45 for non-members and guests. Advance purchase advised. Click here to register online.

Tour check-in is at 2621 Second Street. Parking is available at city lots, on local streets or at the Washington School site at 2802 Fourth Street south of Hill.  Guests are advised to check in by 3 pm to visit all sites and walk the neighborhood.
