Join the City of Santa Monica for a discussion and visual presentation on the architectural history of the Los Angeles Central Library. Learn about the unique architecture and history of the building, which was completed in 1926 and includes ancient Egyptian as well as Mediterranean Revival influences. The library also features chandeliers, sculptures, statues and a four-part mural by illustrator Dean Cornwell depicting stages of the History of California. The building is a designated Los Angeles Historic-Cultural Monument, and is on the National Register of Historic Places.
Panelists include Kenneth Breisch, Associate Professor of Architecture at USC; Margaret Bach, founding member of the Los Angeles Conservancy; and Stephen Gee, author of Los Angeles Central Library: A History of Its Art and Architecture.
