Paddle Out at Bay Street Beach

In honor of George Floyd, there will be a worldwide paddle out. In Santa Monica, the event will take place at the historic Bay Street Beach, one of the few African American leisure sites in Southern California during the Jim Crow era. It was also where African and Mexican American surfer Nick Gabaldon first learned to surf. The site was designated and officially recognized by the City of Santa Monica in 2008 and added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2019.

The paddle out is open to all.
