Celebrate Nick Gabaldon Day with the Santa Monica Conservancy! Enjoy a day of beach activities and free surf lessons to commemorate the life of the first documented surfer of African-American and Mexican descent.

All are welcome on this special day at the historical African American beach site formerly known as the “Inkwell,” as well as at the Santa Monica Pier Aquarium. The event includes a a history tour and beach exploration with Heal the Bay, free surf lessons (waiver required), a beach raffle, celebrity story time, film screenings and more. The Santa Monica Pier Aquarium will be free for all visitors in honor of Gabaldon. RSVP here.

This annual event is also supported by the Black Surfers Collective, California Coastal Conservancy, Concerned Black Men International, Edwards Harris Charitable Trust, Hurley, Surf Bus Foundation and YMCAs of Weingart East Los Angeles.
