You are invited to attend a screening of Peg O’ My Heart, a 1933 film starring Marion Davies, with Conservancy docents. Davies plays Peg, a poor Irish daughter of a fisherman who inherits a fortune and must live in a mansion in England with a treacherous and snobbish family to claim the money. Peg falls in love with Sir Gerald, a friend of the English family, played by Onslow Stevens. When she renounces the inheritance, she returns to Ireland, and Sir Gerald follows her back to her country to declare his love and marry her.
Davies does an outstanding acting job, with sentiment and a masterful Irish brogue.Β The New York Times review praised: “Marion Davies is entrusted with the role of the buoyant colleen and the mirth and sympathy of an audience yesterday afternoon was a sure testimonial to her successful performance.”
The running time of the film is 1 hour and 27 minutes.Β Light refreshments will be served after the film. Space is limited, so RSVP early at rsvp@smconservancy.org.
